THE ROYAL BOARD ON DISABILITY (REAL PATRONATO SOBRE DISCAPACIDAD)

The Royal Board on Disability (Real Patronato sobre Discapacidad) is a public institution of the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs.

Its mission is to encourage prevention of impairments, rehabilitation and social integration of persons with disabilities, and to facilitate, in these fields, collaboration among entities, associations and private sector. Besides, it aims to provide support to specialists and organizations through studies, research, documentation and training.

The RPD is composed by representatives of the Ministries involved in disability issues and regional governments. Organizations representing disabled persons and their families, scientific institutions and experts, also take part in this institution. Her Majesty the Queen Sofía is Honorary President of the Royal Board on Disability.

 

SPANISH CENTRE FOR DISABILITY DOCUMENTATION (CEDD)

The CEDD of the Royal Board on Disability provides an specialized library to professionals, institutions and anyone interested in the field of disabilities. A set of publications is edited by the Spanish Center for Disability Documentation.

The data bank is composed by the main Spanish and international publications (books, magazines and unpublished works) related to disability and social affairs. Since 1980, the CEDD has been managed by Fundación Eguía Careaga (SIIS).

The CEDD services consist of:

  • Public library (Monday to Thursday 9:00 to 15:00 / 16,30 to 18,30; Friday 9:00 to 14:00)
  • In-house databases: Disability bibliography and social policy legislation. These can also be accessed through the CEDD website.
  • Access to other international and Spanish databases.

Other tasks:

  • Information and advise on social resources and legislation.
  • Video Library specialized on different aspects of disabilities.
  • Publication and distribution of the Royal Board’s publications.

En cumplimiento de la Proposición no de Ley del Congreso de los Diputados de Octubre de 2009 el Gobierno, a través del Centro Español de Subtitulado y Audiodescripción (CESyA), está elaborando un informe sobre la accesibilidad en la implantación de la Televisión Digital Terrestre.
